Focus on The Things You Can Control

One of the most important things I have learned in my adult life is how to focus on the things you can control.

You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond to what happens to you.

The latter is the key to becoming successful, especially when it comes to your money.

As a wealth builder, we must focus on what we can control. If you focus on the things that happen to you outside of your control, you will never get ahead.

A massive example is the environment you are born in.

Unfortunately, privilege is real.

If you are born into a bad situation, you’ve been dealt cards that you have no control over.

You have two options: allow your environment to become who you are, or learn from the mistakes in your environment and work on getting out of that situation.

Your response to the bad things in your life will save you.

You go into debt because a car broke down.

You can blame the lemon of a car and the manufacturer, or you can make sure that it never happens again by saving cash.

You bought a stock and it goes to zero.

You can blame the market, or decide I’m going to learn how the rich get wealthy in a safe way.

Your spouse has tens of thousands of dollars in student loans.

You can blame them for their decisions, or help them develop a plan that will get your family out of debt.

Your response will dictate your outcome in life. It is worth its weight in gold to learn how to respond accordingly to life.
